Time for Rejuvenation

“Out with the old, in with the new” – much as SALT will always treasure our seasoned trainers, there comes a time when letting go is unavoidable.

In recent years, the aging of our sages has presented our East Asia team with a challenge for change. This has become evident in both the areas of training and curriculum development work. In response, SALT has determined that the overarching objective for the next two years is to strengthen the cultivation of fresh talent, in preparation for a smooth succession.

Towards the end of 2025, three senior trainers who have dedicated their lives to the ministry for over 20 years will be stepping down. Although they have agreed to support the team as needed, addressing the aging issue in the long term requires a focus on revitalization. Thankfully, Mark stepped up as a key member two years ago, and is now a significant contributor to the ministry.

Filling the gaps left by the retirement of senior teachers is certainly no easy task. We have redoubled our efforts to nurture more newcomers gifted in teaching. However, we admit that finding successors will be difficult, especially young ones willing to commit to the East Asia team. After decades of prosperity, many young believers who initially aspired to serve the Lord have chosen instead to pursue material wealth, which is truly disheartening.

Yet thanks to the Lord, His provisions are always sufficient. Whenever we face a shortage of personnel, His doors open to welcome in new coworkers. Currently, we are training three promising young candidates for succession. Among them, Wing, who has been with us for many years, is anticipated to take over as a teacher within a year. Additionally, two young men are undergoing rigorous on-the-job training, with the hope that they will soon follow in Wing’s footsteps to join the teaching team. We seek everyone’s prayers for a harmonious handover to the next generation!

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.”
(Psalm 90:17, NIV)
